About Black Cracker

“Stoic as fuck, with a baby face and a set of blue-collar shoulders, Ellison Renee Glenn aka Black Cracker (formerly Celena Glenn) rocks a swag aesthetic that lies somewhere between Dipset and Blackbox. Currently living between Berlin and Lausanne, but based professionally out of NYC, he works as a producer/MC/writer and has collaborated with the likes of Cocorosie, Creep, Bunny Rabbit and Grand Pianoramax, among others. Black Cracker is known as an unconventional yet highly appreciated artist who knows how to translate studio time into energetic stage performances – one of the reasons why artists like Slick Rick, Grimes, Trust and many enjoyed sharing the stage with him. His work has recently been covered in the New York Times and Vice Magazine as well as on CNN.

Self taught, art school dropout, he has carried with him a fondness for abstraction to paint a picture vivid and tumultuous. Lust, longing and loneliness. Blood, sweat and fears. A visionary who explores themes of human volatility and temporality.

Black Cracker is a two-time National Poetry Slam Champion and influential figure within Urban Word NYC, one of the nation’s leading literary and performance organizations for youth. Featuring in documentaries such as ‘Spitting Ink,’ and published by Bob Holman’s Bowery Books with his first manuscript, a collection of poems and drawings, entitled “40oz Elephant” he represents the USA in festivals from South Africa to Slovenia.

Alabama born and Brooklyn bred, and left of centre artist, BC goes against the grain of cliche to produce “Off-Pop” with immediacy and edge. Sexy electronic beats, beatbox and poetry combine live instrumentals and a sound responsive light spectacular show. Developed in collaboration with LIT Studios, this is much more than a sonic experience. His performance demonstrates dynamic talent and range, earning him a coveted spot in avant-garde circles.
